I find the  Lyre Bird to be very interesting. It amazes me how this bird can mimic the sounds that it hears. In this video, the bird mimics a car alarm and a chain saw. These sounds show how civilization if affecting the bird’s natural habitat.

Lyre Birds are not currently endangered in the short to medium term, but with habitat destruction, the species are being threatened. Human interference can and will impact this species greatly.

Book Review. “A Farewell to Arms.” October 19, 2012

I have recently read the book, “A Farewell to Arms” by Ernest Hemingway. This book had little emotion and little description. I wasn’t very interested in it at all. You could honestly tell that this book was written by man.

Lieutenant Frederic Henry was the main character. He was a ambulance driver serving in the Italian front during WWI. The beginning of the book was set in the winter as the war was winding down and Herny was planning to tour Italy. When Henry returns in the spring, his friend Lieutenant Rinaldi intouduces Henry to Miss Catherine Barkley. She was a Nurse at a British hospital. Rinaldi was planning to ask Catherine to marry him. But instead, Henry falls inlove with Catherine. When Henry is wounded on the battlefield, he is brought to a hospital in Milan to recover. Several doctors recommend that he stay in bed for six months and then undergo a necessary operation on his knee. Catherine ends up helping him recover. He soon finds out the Catherine in pregnant. Later on, he and Catherine end up running away to Switzerland to escape from Henry getting arrested…..

I would recomened this book to anyone who doesn’t like alot of emotion or detail because this book lacks them both. I give this book 1 1/2 stars.

Sorting People

This exercise has shown me that every person classifies themselves based on their ancestry, not by their appearance. Judging people by their appearance isn’t politically correct. I found this exercise to be a little difficult. I only got 6 right the first time. I tried to pay close attention to each persons eye shape, hair type, skin color, and facial feature when I tried to classify them. People say not to judge a book by its cover, but in reality, we all do. We consider what a person is by their appearance, and not what they really are. We tend to look for key features that are common in a certain race in certain people. Racial profiling is wrong in my opinion. It’s whats on the inside that counts.

This is my first time ever using a blogging site. I am pretty excited to learn how to use this site and hope it benefits me for the better. I’ve never used a blog for a class assignment. I predict that I will have to express my feelings about the books that  I read over the summer. I actually look forward to the assignments. I look forward to them because I will be able to express my feelings about the books. 🙂
